All entrepreneurs want to be the Big Cheese—but Maria Castro did it. She started making Queso Fresco at home in 1971 using an old family recipe. Soon Castro’s La Vaquita cheeses spread to Central Market, Kroger and Fiesta. But she was an expert on comida, not communication. So Origin whipped her up a brand image from scratch, refried collateral, served product photos and churned out a yummy new Web site that earned her coverage on FoodTV!

Whether you’re just hankering for a hunk o’ cheese or you’re a big-time retailer searching for a new dairy product, you wanna see a good Web site. Origin gave Castro Cheese an elegant, rustic Mexican site design, with content that includes everything from recipe ideas (try the entomatadas) to reseller FAQ’s. The sexy site even landed Castro’s La Vaquita cheeses on The Food Network TV show Food Finds.

Origin designed La Vaquita’s brand identity to communicate the quality of Castro’s cheese, the cornerstone on which the business is based. The smiling cow in the La Vaquita logo, the product packaging and all of the brand’s other tasteful design elements worked together to communicate the handmade quality and rural Mexican roots making La Vaquita so darn quesolicious. And for la piece de resistance, we also facilitated high-end food photography (nobody even had to smile and say cheese).

Point of Sale Collateral

It takes a lot of selling to get retail products onto the shelves and into shopping carts. That means Castro Cheese needed some quality print pieces that would do justice to their product and prove that the company was capable, desirable and not spreading itself too thin. The collateral’s fresh content and a new look and feel improved sales. Come on—let’s all get up right now, stop sampling design and go eat some cheese. Mmm.
