Dubuque, IA—Eric Helminiak, PE, SE, accepted the second annual Waugh Award during a lunch celebration and awards ceremony at the company’s corporate headquarters in Dubuque.
The Waugh Award was created in honor of IIW/Origin Design co-founder, Dennis Waugh, who retired at the end of 2018 after 37 years of service. The award recognizes an Origin employee owner that supports and furthers its Mission-Vision-Values, while exhibiting the traits of Waugh, including passion, generosity, leading by example and loyalty.
Five nominations were received for the Waugh Award—Helminiak was unanimously selected. As described in the nomination, “Eric has a genuine interest in others’ success and challenges them to develop their skills. He instills confidence and always has your back. He makes a positive impression on employees and clients, is an expert at what he does and is thorough and conscientious.”
Helminiak, a Structural Engineer and Structural Team Leader, accepted the award from Pat Ready, PE, President & CEO of Origin Design. “Eric is a true ambassador of Origin Design. He’s an expert, devoted, committed, kind and has all the traits that represent the Waugh Award. I’m proud to call Eric my colleague and friend,” said Ready.

I’ve had the opportunity to work with a lot of great mentors throughout my career and it’s one of the things I’ve strived to be good at. It's a great honor to be this year's recipient of the award. ”
