Dubuque, IA—Courtney Wand, PE, SE, recently received her Structural Engineer (SE) license from the State of Illinois.
The process of becoming an SE involves having a bachelor’s degree and at least four years of structural engineering experience under another licensed engineer. This is followed by passing the Structural Engineering exam, which is comprised of two 8-hour long exams. The exams cover both vertical and lateral loads, as well as different types of building materials for buildings and bridges. Courtney met the requirements and was able to pass both exams.
Courtney has been a Structural Engineer in IIW’s Transportation Department since 2011. She specializes in bridge design, structure hydraulics, structure load ratings, and directs detailing for both pedestrian and vehicular bridges. She also performs falsework calculations and is a valuable resource during bridge and culvert construction. In addition to being a licensed Structural Engineer in Illinois, she is a licensed Professional Engineer in the states of Wisconsin and Iowa.
