This 2.1-mile-long project is funded with HSIP funds to create a safer corridor of Business 151 from Staley Avenue to Insight Drive in the City of Platteville, including the signalized intersection of Business 151 with State Highway 80/81.
The project included pedestrian and bicycle accommodations along the corridor as well as conversion of the roadway to a three-lane roadway with a two-way center turn lane in the center. An ultra-thin asphalt overlay was used to remove existing pavement markings to allow the marking to three lanes. The existing roadway is currently either a four-lane section or a two-lane rural section with wide shoulders.
Staged construction to maintain access to local businesses.

The design included a separate shared use path for a 4600’ portion of the corridor. The project required all work to be performed within the existing right of way, requiring retaining walls to be installed to accommodate the shared use path. The design is in conformance with the Wisconsin Bicycle Facility Design Handbook as published by the WisDOT. With the addition of a shared use path in the area of the roadway ditch, a drainage analysis was required to confirm the reduction of the size of the ditch met drainage needs.
