Origin Design assisted the City of Dyersville with the planning and selection of a new water tower.

After studying the City’s water system, Origin Design identified the best location, elevation, capacity and type of water storage structure that would best meet the City’s needs.

Meetings were held to educate the City on the various advantages and disadvantages of each type of water storage system. Ultimately, the City selected a composite-type water tower system consisting of a reinforced concrete pedestal with a 300,000 gallon painted steel tank. It stands at approximately 176.5 feet from the top of the foundation to the tank overflow.

The project involved the decommissioning and removal of a much smaller existing ground-storage tank with a booster-pumping station. Site improvements and a versatile underground piping system were designed to optimize the operation of the system from Well 5.

The project included engineering services for site work, erosion control and water main connections. Origin Design also provided quality-control testing and construction observation on the project, including additional services during the two-year warranty.

The water tower stands approximately 176.5 feet from the top of the foundation to the 300,000 gallon steel tank.
