On International Women in Engineering Day, we celebrate the incredible impact of women across engineering. Thank you for the work you do every day to move us forward and inspire what’s next. 

n Oelwein last month, Origin’s Construction Inspection and Testing team supported the 10th St. Bridge deck pour, part of the bridge and roadway projects we inspect across the region. We verified epoxy-coated rebar ahead of the pour, then performed on-site testing during placement including air, slump, and depth to confirm consistency and meet project specifications. From placement through curing, our team remained on-site to monitor, document, and help ensure the deck was built right.

Downtown spaces shape how communities connect, gather, and grow. Civil Engineer, Andy Goedken, and our team collaborated with the City of Volga to reimagine its Main Street, improving function and safety while reinforcing its role at the center of community life. Project Manager Andrew Busch and our Marketing team checked in on progress at the East Dubuque Emergency Services Building.One focus on this project remains holding onto the character of the existing building while updating it to better serve the needs of departments today.We’re especially excited about the upcoming glass-enclosed stairwell that will connect the existing Fire and Police stations, blending a sleek, modern feature with the original structure.

On Friday, Engineering Designer Luke Althaus used his employee volunteer day to help Mrs. Althaus and her second grade classroom plant trees at Kennedy Elementary School. Mary Abbott, Senior Design Technician, and Tasha Vondal, Project Support Specialist, have spent the past year working closely on DOT funded projects. Mary has shared her 40 years of expertise in contract administration, guiding Tasha through every phase of the process, from project setup and bidding, to construction administration, payments, and change orders. This collaboration reflects our commitment to mentorship, teamwork, and delivering consistent, high-quality solutions for our clients.

A major infrastructure upgrade is taking shape in Oelwein, IA. Origin Design’s team designed the new 10th St. SW replacement bridge, now under construction by Taylor Construction. For this Field Trip Friday, crews were setting 97-foot-long, 31 ton pretensioned prestressed concrete beams into place.

We were honored to celebrate the opening of the DeWitt Fire Station Addition and recognize 150 years of service to the community! From the hose-cutting ceremony and station tours to live demos and truck and equipment displays, it was a day full of pride, gratitude, and community spirit.

A huge thank you to the City of DeWitt and the DeWitt Fire Department for letting us be part of this milestone project. Here's to the next 150 years of service and safety!

Cody Austin and Josh Layer had a fantastic time at the 2025 Quad Cities Fall Engineering Symposium hosted by Society of American Military Engineers - Rock Island Post ! Cody took the stage to present on “Enhancing Land Development Communication through 3D Rendering and Visualization.”

He demonstrated how 3D rendering can transform complex designs into clear, engaging visuals, enhancing collaboration with powerful tools like Civil 3D, InfraWorks, SketchUp, Enscape, and AI. His insights highlighted innovative strategies to elevate communication in land development and strengthen connections with clients and the community.
